It might not have been a Hollywood blockbuster, but a short video produced by Tourism Kelowna has been honoured at Cannes.
Kelowna’s destination marketing and management organization earned a Silver Dolphin at the 15th annual Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, which were held Sept. 26 in Côte d’Azur, France. The video, called “Explore More of Kelowna in All Seasons,” was one of three silver medal winners in the Tourism Films Destinations-Cities category. There was one gold medal designation, and it went to a video about Conil de la Frontera, Spain.
“We are thrilled to receive this international award,” Tourism Kelowna president and CEO Lisanne Ballantyne said in a press release. “We recognize and applaud the passionate work put in by our team, the featured local businesses and videographer, which led to the creation of this award-winning video.
“Receiving this award provides an opportunity to be seen by thousands of people around the world who we may not have been able to reach previously, with the message that Kelowna is a year-round destination with a wide range of experiences in every season.”
There were more than 800 submissions from 46 countries for 63 awards, and 212 products made the shortlist in their respective categories.
Tourism Kelowna’s video was shot by Nic Collar, and it received support from the District of Lake Country and from Visit Westside.
“It was an honour to receive the news from overseas that we had won this award,” project lead Steve Small said. “The video aims to encourage people to visit and explore more of Kelowna by going behind the scenes with a tour, hearing from local business owners, and learning about the culture of the syilx people.”
